UPDATE: Canada Line power outage resolved – BC

UPDATE: Canada Line power outage has been cleared. Translink is resuming regular service.

Translink says it is experiencing power problems on its Canada Line this morning.

A bus bridge is being set up to accommodate commuters.

Translink has experienced three significant breakdowns in less than a week. This is the first time that Canada Line has been affected.

Last Thursday, a computer glitch caused a system-wide hold on the Millennium line between Sapperton and Braid Stations, and on the Expo line between Royal Oak and King George Stations. Many passengers were stuck on the SkyTrain for more than an hour in the heat, and some frustrated passengers forced open doors and walked along the tracks.

On Monday, a serious malfunction caused both the Expo and Millennium lines to shut down for five hours. Stations had to be evacuated and closed and many people had to be escorted from stopped trains along the tracks.

On Wednesday, SkyTrain users saw even more delays between Commercial-Broadway and Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver after a switch problem. 

Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson says he will be asking for an independent investigation into Monday’s massive shutdown, but Translink says no inquiry is necessary.
